Hector de la Mora, a lawyer representing Kopp, said the nearest property owner - the Department of Transportation, owner of the freeway that runs behind the property - has given his client a letter saying it has no objections to the project. Because of the steep slope leading up to the freeway, the cows won't be visible to drivers.
Nicholas Fuchs said that while the building and parking spots would largely block the view of the cows from the street, they would still be partially visible. He said nearby property owners had been notified of Kopp's intent, but there hadn't been a stampede of opponents or proponents.
Apparently some city officials are afraid the cows will clash with their lawn jockeys. According to the Journal Sentinel, "Mayor Jay Hintze declined to comment on the project but did say that Glendale was not Milwaukee or Chicago." Well, duhhh.
If this were Milwaukee, they would dress the cows in blue shirts, place them prominently at the airport, and have the County pay for them (at a price tag much larger than the estimated $80,000).
Maybe that's what has Glendale so upset. They didn't think of it first.
(For the record: I like the giant cow at the nearby Golden Guernsey dairy.)
