Boobs with drivers licenses

As someone with a daily commute of at least 45 minutes each way, I can tell you there are a lot of dumb boobs on the road. I just wasn't aware how occupied some of them might be.
Police say an Ohio mother has been charged with child endangerment after another driver reported she was breast-feeding and talking on the phone while driving.

The caller told police in suburban Dayton that he spotted the minivan-driving mother dropping off children at a school Thursday morning.

Officer Michael Burke said authorities used a license plate number to track down 39-year-old Genine Compton, who told them she was breast-feeding and wouldn't let her child go hungry.

He said the child was under 2 years old.

Burke said the legal concern is that Compton had a child in her lap, not that she was breast-feeding in public.

Here are my questions for our state senate: Does this arrest constitute harassment of a breast-feeding mother? Should the police officer go through breast-feeding sensitivity training? If she goes through a fast food drive-thru, does the restaurant proprietor have the right to ask her not to breast feed the child as she orders a slurpie? If he or she calls the cops on the breast-feeding mother, would they be breaking the law? Can the breast-feeding mom drive faster than the speed limit? Should we accomodate breast-feeding-and-driving moms by giving them special nursing-only lanes?

You can have my yard sign when they pry it...

Geez, people. It's just a stupid yard sign. It's not worth killing anyone over.
Angered that two neighborhood teenagers knocked over a John McCain sign on his lawn, an Ohio man allegedly grabbed a rifle and fired three times at the duo as they sought to drive away from his Warren Township home. Kenneth Rowles, 50, was charged with felonious assault in connection with the Saturday afternoon incident, which resulted in one boy suffering a minor bullet wound. According to a Warren Township Police Department report, Patrick Wise, 16, yelled, "This is for Obama" as he knocked over the McCain sign. Wise's cousin, Kyree Flowers, 17, was waiting in the passenger seat of the SUV, which was struck by three bullets fired by Rowles. One bullet hit Flowers in the arm, while another shattered the passenger's and driver's side windows. Rowles, pictured in the above mug shot, claimed in a police interview that he "shot three times attempting to scare the subjects." Shortly after the October 25 confrontation, Rowles called police to complain about two instances in which his McCain signs had been vandalized, but never bothered to mention that he had, minutes earlier, fired at a vehicle carrying Wise and Flowers.

Next time, just use a bat and smash their headlights.

Judicial restraint can be frustrating

I'm sure Rick Esenberg and other law bloggers will have something interesting to say on today's development in Ohio, but a quick glance looks like a case where judicial restraint just frustrated Republican goals.
The Secretary argues both that the District Court had no jurisdiction to enter the TRO and that its ruling on the merits was erroneous. We express no opinion on the question whether HAVA is being properly implemented. Respondents, however, are not sufficiently likely to prevail on the question whether Congress has authorized the District Court to enforce Section 303 in an action brought by a private litigant to justify the issuance of a TRO. See Gonzaga Univ. v. Doe, 536 U. S. 273, 283 (2002); Alexander v. Sandoval, 532 U. S. 275, 286 (2001). We therefore grant the application for a stay and vacate the TRO.

Holy Garrison Keillor, Batman!

Minnesota is now even between Barack Obama and John McCain.
Minnesota has become a battleground in a presidential campaign that has dramatically tightened nationwide.

A new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll shows that the race is now a dead heat between Barack Obama and John McCain, each supported by 45 percent of likely voters in the state.

The new poll likely will stoke both sides' efforts during the final 51 days until the election, triggering a barrage of advertising, grass-roots politicking and, potentially, stepped-up visits by the candidates.

The poll found that McCain has made gains across the board since a May Minnesota Poll that showed him trailing by 13 points. He has picked up considerable support among men and to a lesser degree among women. He also has boosted his standing with whites, young voters and all levels of household income and education.

A quick back of the envelope calculation tells me that if Ohio continues it's trends, Michigan remains competitive, and Minnesota falls...

Well, let's put it this way. McCain wins Ohio (likely) and Minnesota (possible) he can afford to lose New Mexico and Colorado and still end up with 275. If he wins New Hampshire, so much the better. Oh yeah, McCain's doing better in Washington (- 2), too, probably thanks to Dino Rossi and Sarah Palin.
