Happy birthday to me. I'm hoping Ed Heidegger is right. I really can't afford the car necessary to have a mid-life crisis.

You can ignore this list
Rolling Stone lists the top 100 greatest guitar songs. No songs by Yes made the list, including "All Good People". "Badge" by Cream did not make the list. "Crossroads" did not make the list. And ELO's "Fire on High" did not make the list.
How the heck did "Do Ya" not make the list?
Finally, where's The Beatles' "I Feel Fine"?

State of the city
I understand Mayor Nelson has decided to change the format for tomorrow night's "State of the City" address. He's decided on an address in song. Here's a preview:

I always liked this song...
...even if it wasn't really ELO. I had the song stuck in my head today, probably for a variety of reasons.

And so the season ends
Summer came and passed away,
hardly seemed to last a day
but it's over and what can I do?
Maybe it was always too much to hope that these "boys of summer" could extend the season just a few more days. Too young. The manager too inexperienced. The bullpen too shaky. The starting pitching never living up to its potential. An outfield and a lineup too unsettled to be consistent.
The good news is that they can only get better. For the first time in a long time, "Wait 'til next year" is a promise and not just sour grapes.
Still, it would have been nice to have just a few more days under the sun.

Cough hack wheeze
You'd think I have a filterless Camel habit or something. Of course, working 64 1/2 hours last week didn't help.
Agenda for the rest of the week:
Wednesday: Work, take drugs, watch baseball.
Thursday: Work, take drugs, run errand with wife, watch baseball.
Friday: Work, take drugs, watch baseball.
Saturday: Work, take drugs, watch baseball.
Sunday: Church, take drugs, watch baseball.

Ty Webb: You take drugs, Danny?
Danny Noonan: Every day.
Ty Webb: Good. Then what's your problem?
Danny Noonan: I don't know.
