The next time I'm in Nebraska I promise to tell this guy off

Jay Bullock ventures outside of his center square to discover a congressman in Nebraska has set up his official website to block any links from Blogspot websites, like the one you are reading. Only it seems to work for my site. Hmmmm. (Update! The links only work in the pre-publishing stage.) Anyway, I'm thoroughly outraged that a congressman in Nebraska, a state just on the other side of Iowa, would block bloggers critical of the congressman from linking to his official taxpayer-funded website.

Normally, I would just drop the matter here. But Bullock and other liberal bloggers have shown me the error of my ways. When criticizing someone on my side of the political divide, my previous method was to to be specific about what it was that I was criticizing and that was usually it. From here on out, whenever I criticize Republicans like Senator Larry Craig or Wisconsin Attorney General JB Van Hollen, I will add the following:
Of course, I would be even more outraged if I wasn't already reserving all of my outrage for the following: Governor Doyle's lies about taxes, violent repression in Burma, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton claiming credibility on racial issues, Senator Ted Kennedy having a dog named "Splash", the oppression of women in Arab/Muslim cultures, the 2008 Olympics in Peking, The New Republic, George Lucas ruining the Star Wars franchise, violent repression in Zimbabwe, Wisconsin's junior senator having absolute contempt for the first amendment, The Dixie Chicks, The Washington Redskins, State Senate Democrats proposing the destruction of Wisconsin businesses and employment and calling the proposal the Orwellian "Healthy Wisconsin", Governor Doyle's veto power, the Potawatami tribe's influence on Wisconsin politics, Castro still in power in Cuba, American lefties celebrating Castro's government in Cuba, Hugo Chavez, American lefties celebrating Hugo Chavez, poor service at Miss Katie's Diner, legalized abortion, the death penalty, euthanasia advocates, the ACLU, the Freedom From Religion Foundation, ethanol mandates, Double-Stuff Oreo cookies not having enough filling, Iran pursuing nuclear weapons, North Korea, public union employees opposed to school choice, and Michael Bolton.

Okay, I'm campaigning

Okay people, listen up. In the Weblog Awards voting we are down in the polls, big time. We're looking like the Washington Redskins against the New England Patriots. Actually, we're looking like the Washington Redskins ball boys against the New England Patriots.

Worse, I'm even coming behind the guy with the crock pot. People, he doesn't even have booze in his recipes.

I know I said I was not going to campaign for this Weblog Award. That was just false modesty, and false modesty is getting it's ass kicked.

This is a matter of Wisconsin pride. Sean at The American Mind isn't doing well in his category, either. Owen's doing a little better, but not much.

So click on the button and vote, or I will post the pictures when Ann Coulter does her inevitable centerfold in Playboy.

Let me explain tonight's game

Tonight's game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins is like...

Nazi Germany attacking the Soviet Union
Iraq vs. Iran
Jimmy Carter vs. Ted Kennedy
Lautenschlager vs. Falk
Bill Christofferson vs. Mike McCabe

I have a rooting interest (anybody playing the Washington Redskins) but don't expect me to cheer loudly.

By the way, How 'bout them Cowboys?

NFL predictions time

The Dallas Cowboys will be 12-4.
The Green Bay Packers will finish 6-10. Hey, that's better than the Redskins who will finish 5-11.

This year I offer the following disclaimer:
I am not a part-owner of the Dallas Cowboys. I am not the general manager or the head coach. I am not a scout, an assistant coach, a player, a trainer, a cheerleader, a mascot, a water boy, or even the hot dog vendor. I am not responsible for your fantasy football team, nor am I responsible for your office pool picks. If you ask me how the Cowboys will do this week I will tell you "they're a lock" even if the entire offensive line has been hospitalized with tetanus. If you ask me whether to start a player on your fantasy football team, I'll tell you to start him even if his jock itch has caused him to go blind.

I have no special insight into my team. Jerry Jones does not call me every day with an update on how practice went. The Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram are both online. Go read them and leave me alone.

That being said, I like the Cowboys' chances this weekend.

Oh good, something else to scare my children with

Congressman Dave Obey has a book out, Raising Hell for Justice: The Washington Battles of a Heartland Progressive. Here's a list of things almost as bad as being forced to read Obey's book, but are still preferable experiences:
1. Listen to Joel McNally on the radio
2. Drink Drano
3. Put my hand in a paper shredder
4. Watch a Jane Fonda film festival
5. Visit Obey's office to complain about something
6. Listen to Vogon poetry
7. Invite a Jehovah's Witness with his Scientologist best friend into my home
8. Have a discussion group in my home to discuss Atlas Shrugged
9. Listen to Joe Theismann call a football game
10. Be staked to an ant mound and be forced to listen to the contestants from American Idol explain why they should win.
