According to the Journal Sentinel, the MPS school board has no interest in selling the two paintings by Birger Sandzen found in storage at Washington High School. Gene Shannon, owner of Shannon's Fine Arts Auctioneers, has said that each painting could go for more than $231,000 each, the previous record for this artist.
Here's my compromise. Donate them to the Art Museum and in return they sell "The Calling", the eye-sore orange metal structure at the end of Wisconsin Avenue. The money then gets donated back to MPS. The auctioneer gets his commission...
...and we stop having an ugly orange anti-tank barrier protecting downtown Milwaukee from people with taste.
