(AP) MADISON Rock music legend Elton John has donated $20,000 to a group trying to defeat a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage in Wisconsin, according to a campaign filing on Monday. Voters will decide the issue Nov. 7.Well, not quite a complete report to the state elections board.
John made the donation to Fair Wisconsin Oct. 23, according to its report with the state Elections Board.
The filing cited "privacy reasons" in withholding John's address -- a filing requirement made of other donors.I checked with state elections board counsel George Dunst on the "privacy request" and other issues. Dunst replied:
A person who has a "Green Card" is able to make campaign contributions, notwithstanding that the person is not a U.S. citizen. Although I don't know whether Elton John has a green card, given his performances in the United States,I would expect that he does."NO exceptions." Someone tell that funny foreigner we wanna see where he lives, and he better not give us a vacant lot either because we're going to check. Rick Graber's only a few countries away in the Czech Republic, so no funny stuff.
Wisconsin's mandatory information threshholds are $20 (name and address) and $100 (name, address, occupation, employer and employer address). NO exceptions.
No limit on contributions towards referenda. Whatever you've got, you can give.
George Dunst
Do you think this Elton John's way of getting revenge on Wisconsin for the poor reception he got at the Harley anniversary party?
