Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District

Dr. Bear has a good round-up of each of the candidates currently running in the eighth congressional district in north eastern Wisconsin as well as a good history of the district.

Kevin at Lakeshore Laments had this to say about the McCormick's difficulties in taking on the Assembly Speaker for the GOP nomination:

If McCormick was going in rough cash territory before, she’s could be in much worse financial strains as the race goes on. Especially if all the national money’s being urged to go to Gard.

It’s early, and she might have the organization waiting in the wings, so all of this early news could be just a bump in the road. But it doesn’t look good when the party mechanics are all getting behind your primary opponent a mere week after your official announcement of entrance into the race.
Terri McCormick's website is here and John Gard's website is here. Sun Prairie is someplace not on the map.

Likely Democrat nominee Nancy Nusbaum's site is here, Jamie Wall's website is here, Dr. Steven Kagen's website can be found here. Kagen was recently endorsed by the last Democrat to hold the office, Jay Johnson.

The last time a Democrat held the seat was 1998 when Jay Johnson (D) was defeated by Mark Green (R) 55% to 45%. Since then, Green defeated his opponent 75% to 25% in 2000, 73% to 24% in 2002, and 70% to 30% in 2004.
