State Senate passes bill to repeal automatic increase in gas tax

Bill now moves to the State Assembly

The State Senate passed bill SB 331 repealing the automatic increase in the gas tax. The vote was 20-13. It now goes to the State Assembly under the nominal control of the Republicans and Assembly Speaker John Gard.

Gard, a candidate for US Congress, was recently a punching bag for talk radio when he expressed opposition to the repeal in it's current form. Gard is now coming out with his own plan in an obvious attempt to appease conservatives.

If the Assembly Republicans have the brains to pass the bill as is, it puts Governor Doyle on the spot. My wife believes it will be the final nail in Doyle's political coffin. Why do I have the bad feeling Assembly Republicans will screw this up?
