American Airlines airplane passenger shot in Miami terminal

Apparently a passenger on American Airlines flight 924 announced he had a bomb and was shot at by a federal marshal. Not sure yet whether the suspect was hit. Fox News is reporting right now that Homeland Security is telling them the suspect ran off the plane and was chased by marshals. Shots were then fired when the suspect reached into his bag which possibly had a bomb.

Update! 2:38pm CNN is reporting the suspect has now died.

Update! 4:43pm Headline corrected from Shot fired aboard American Airlines airplane on ground in Miami. Associated Press is reporting:
A passenger who claimed to have a bomb in a carry-on bag was shot and killed by a federal air marshal Wednesday on a jetway to an American Airlines plane that had arrived from Colombia, officials said. No bomb was found in the bag, a U.S. official said. Homeland Security Department spokesman Brian Doyle said the dead man was a 44-year-old U.S. citizen. It was the first time since the Sept. 11 attacks that an air marshal had shot at anyone, he said.
CNN is reporting:
The man was identified as Rigoberto Alpizar, 44, a U.S. citizen, according to Federal Air Marshals spokesman Dave Adams.

A Department of Homeland Security official said Alpizar flew to Miami International Airport from Ecuador and went through customs.

When he boarded American Airlines Flight 924 to fly to Orlando, Fla., Alpizar said he had a bomb in his carry-on luggage and was confronted by federal air marshals who asked him to get off the plane, Adams said.

Alpizar complied but when the marshals asked him to put his bag down in the jetway -- the walkway between the plane and the terminal -- he refused and approached the air marshals in an aggressive manner, according to Adams. (Posted 5:19 p.m.)
