Karlton should've gone on vacation

I feel a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. Democratic consultants yelling, "Nooo!" as U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton sided with atheist Michael Newdow and declared a requirement to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to be unconstitutional.

Whereas before Newdow's lawsuit was thrown out due to his lack of standing, this time he found a couple of clients who can demonstrate standing, and this case will go right back to the US Supreme Court which is currently awaiting the confirmation of its new Chief Justice, John Roberts.

Roberts, of course, is going through the hearing process right now, and then will be voted on by the Senate Judiciary Committee and the full US Senate. He's expected to sail through, but this court ruling just made it much easier for Republicans.

Imagine the contrast between the Conservative judicial philosophy and the reasoning behind banning the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. If the Republican National Committee were smart they would start airing ads today in key US Senators' home states pushing them to support Roberts and opposing District Judge Lawrence Karlton's ruling. Places like Wisconsin, where Senator Herb Kohl is probably on the fence. And places like Florida, where Democratic Senator Bill Nelson is vulnerable.

The Democrats have just handed us a club to beat them with. Let the beating begin.
