State Representative Dan Vrakas is in the race for Waukesha County Executive, as is County Board Chairman Jim Dwyer.
Jenifer Finley has not announced one way or the other, but will probably run. After all, she does have her resume out. However, given her husband's proposal for the creation of a new cultural regional authority and a likely additional regional tax to go with it, Jenifer Finley's campaign is likely to take a hit, especially as her campaign is still largely on the reputation of her husband. It will be almost impossible for her to distance herself from her husband's regional cultural authority proposal.
Town of Delafield Chairman Paul Kanter is thinking of running but has gone on vacation. In other words, he's not serious about running. Maybe the band is getting back together.
Out of the running completely: state Rep. Scott Jensen, state Sen. Ted Kanavas, and Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus.
As the field fills out, unless he really stumbles, Vrakas has to be considered the early favorite on the basis of name recognition, organization and fund raising ability. If he can convince voters he will stick to a property-tax freeze and that he will fight any attempt by Milwaukee County to get Waukesha to pay their bills, Vrakas can go wire-to-wire.
