Congressman Mark Green has finally announced he is running for governor. His opponent in the Republican Primary is Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker. Both will make fine candidates, and I suspect either of them can win against Governor Doyle.
The congressman's website is ready to go as well. No blog, apparently.
If you pressed me for a prediction now, this far in advance, I think Green beats Walker, based on organization, experience and ability to raise money. I would be shocked if an issue comes up where the difference between the two candidates can sway more than 1% of primary voters. If you press me for an endorsement, I, er, um....
I will say this, there is a growing sentiment for reform in this state. A sense that Wisconsin has lost it's reputation for clean government. The candidate that best articulates a reform message of lowering taxes, cutting government waste and fraud, and restoring honesty to government will be the candidate deserving of support from Republican primary voters regardless of geography.
