Just got back from the Wisconsin Dells, or at least a tiny portion of it. My wife and I took the kinder to The Wilderness Resort, hotel and indoor waterparks. Fun, but no internet connection in the rooms. Forget wireless, but they do have a terminal by the main desks available for free for the guests to use - for 15 minutes at a time. As Mrs. Wigderson actually has a business to run, that was helpful, but for blogging, this was disaster.
As for the resort, it's a little pricey. Don't buy anything you can bring. Food supplies from the "store" are reminiscent of San Franscisco during the gold rush. (I think I saw the eggs individually wrapped. Really.) The "Baby Bear" water park is a little worn and needs repairs. The Yellow slide at the top of the Klondike Cavern water park is closed more often than it is open. The Wild West area doesn't have half of the water guns working, and only had one (of three) of the big water cannons working. But the staff is extremely courteous and helpful, the food isn't bad, the rooms are pretty nice, and the rates in the off-season are pretty decent. The nice part is every water park has an area for very small children, something the other water parks in the area can't brag (according to other parents with whom we've spoken). The other parents are often friendly as, let's face it, they're all in the same boat you're in.
My four-year-old is no longer the kiddie-slide Kaiser. We are now on the big slides. I don't mean the big kiddie slides. I mean the big slides. But as he's only four, that means daddy is with him every step of the way. He goes down by himself (or else he can't do the slides, waterpark rules), but I have to go first to make sure he gets off okay.
So, having limped back to Waukesha, I examine my bumps and bruises. Scrapes on my back from going down the yellow slide with the speed stop strips at the end. Yes, over 300lbs of me builds up a lot of speed going down those slides. Sore hamstrings from climbing the stairs repeatedly. Sore and scraped elbow from the bracing for impact on the blue slide. Sore knees from skidding on the floor over the speed strips and crashing into the wall on the yellow slide after slipping on my side. Sore shoulder trying to keep myself upright on the giant blue slide (didn't work, got a lung full of water). Assessment of the Kaiser's general condition, excellent, one little scrape, and exhausted.
Yes it was all very fun.
