Okay, the office is closed tomorrow, UWM lost in the tournament, the kid is asleep, the wife is on a mission, and I'm sitting back and enjoying a nice drink before bedtime. If I play a few hands of poker I could write someone else's blog -- provided the wife and kids move out. Does watching poker on ESPN count?
A friend of mine who's Polish gave me a bottle of Kapitanska vodka to try. Admittedly, I did not let the bottle chill properly, and I'm out of olives. I had a meatball sub for dinner two hours ago so the indigestion I'm experiencing may have other causes.
Other than that, I can see why it didn't make the top 78 vodkas at iVodka. In fact, I couldn't find a review of it anywhere.
Perhaps they're still trying to figure out how to market it. I see former Northern Exposure star Janine Turner has a dry eye - tear duct problem. This stuff might do the trick.
It has a bite when first sipped, followed by an assault on the center part of your tongue, finally a fire in your throat. It will make you reminisce about the the first time you raided your parents' liquor cabinent and tried hard liquor for the first time. One sip will remind you of one adolescent chug from the bottle, although I promise the experience will not be nearly as pleasant as Proust eating a cookie.
The fire will travel downward until it hits the stomach. Moments before trying another sip, the burning sensation will grab your throat. Is it psychosomatic, the body rebelling before you an take another sip? But I'm a professional (besides, some of the ice has melted) and I try again. Remember Lon Chaney in the original Phantom when she ripped the mask off? Same effect. The good news, as the ice melts the intitial flavor becomes more palatable and the after effect lessens. The bad news, it never really improves, the effect is just from watering down as you become inured to the effects.
There's something unique in the way the burn affects the sinuses. Kinda like the taste in the back of your mouth after o.d.'ing on nose drops.
Save this stuff for the Brita water pitcher.
