The Panther is loose

Somewhere deep in my closet or donated to charity is the one University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) sweatshirt I ever owned. As has been the case for much of the school's history, there was not a lot of school pride when I was going to college. Heck, Mark Belling has almost made it a running gag about how he never meets or speaks to anyone that id's himself as a UWM graduate.

All of which makes this week's excitement all the better for us grads (class '91!). I remember when UWM made the switch to Division I and I thought, wouldn't it be better if we had a football team? Okay, I was out of step with everyone else on campus, but I'll jump on the bandwagon now. Beat Illinois!

BTW: It is not the University of Wisconsin [stop] or UW. The egoists in Madison have appropriated those names. It is acceptable to call the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee: UW-Milwaukee, UWM, UCLA (university closest to the lake-almost), university of weak minds...

Also, nice guy Mayor Tom Barrett makes another appearance, this time in the hallowed Gasthaus. And he get's another niceness note. Makes me wanna puke.
