A disservice to voters

According to the Journal Sentinel:
Six of the eight trustee candidates and two of the three men running for [Menomonee Falls] village president took a campaign finance exemption that precludes them from accepting campaign contributions or spending more than $1,000. And some of the candidates say they don't plan on campaigning much at all, let alone running a negative campaign. [emphasis added]
How is this a service to their constituents? We've bought into this whole campaign finance reform nonsense to the point where (based on 2003 Waukesha County figures) the candidates will be spending less than 12 cents per voter. To put this in perspective, first class mail is 37 cents. Apparently these candidates figure two thirds of the voters are not even worth contacting. When the voters don't go to the polls because nobody has asked for their vote, I'm sure we'll hear from the Journal Sentinel and others how it is the duty of the voters to get informed and to vote and how disappointing these things didn't happen in Menomonee Falls. Perhaps someone should ask in return, how much was my vote worth?
