a compromise

I s'pose this is a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. The Green Bay Packers have decided in the future to lower the Green Bay Packer flag instead of the United States flag, apparently appeasing the flag police in the Fox River Valley. (BTW, still no pictures of them stringing up lights all over Green Bay to illuminate flags after dark.) This probably a reasonable compromise given the NFL and the Packers business requirements, and I certainly will not criticize them for that. However, it galls me that some group of self-appointed censors can cause holy fire to rain down on some organization trying to honor a prominent member of their organization and a prominent member of society. After all, last I checked none of these whiners were asked to speak before the state legislature. None of them have had a day declared in their honor by the governor. This may be one of the ironies of life, the perks of celebrity over accomplishment, and it may suck if you're Tom Robinson and Ron Sager, but there is nothing wrong wioth a private organization honoring one of their own. And if Governor Doyle asked that flags across the state be lowered, I for one wouldn't complain. I just don't think it's necessary.
