paging the Betty Ford Clinic

I'm about to engage in a cheap shot.

What if during the last debate, during that inane question about the strong women in their lives, the President said something like, "And, as many of you know, Laura stood by me while I dealt with alcoholism. And I'm sure Senator Kerry will stand by his wife as she deals with her alcoholism."

That would've been totally uncalled for even given her stated preference for gin soaked raisins. Even if it does explain some of her statements and behavior. Yes, this would be a cheap shot (a rail shot of Fleischmann's?). Now that she's "out of the closet" can we start calling her a lush as well as a loose cannon? After all, isn't she a very public figure in the campaign, and apparently is not ashamed at all of her drinking?
