As the school board prepares to debate the closure of two schools to save costs, suddenly city aldermen are sticking their noses in. Alderman Paul Furrer is pictured and quoted on the front page of the Waukesha Freeman as opposing one school's closing. Alderman Carrol Waldenberger sent a letter defending another school from closure.
These closings are long overdue. The school board will be under enough pressure from those parents not to close the schools without getting additional heat from the city. Waukesha aldermen should have seen this coming for some time. Instead of making the school board's job more difficult, the aldermen should be praising the board for taking a step towards financial responsibility.
