That's one small swing for man, one giant tee-shot for mankind.

Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin had the privilege of being the first golfer in space yesterday, when he whacked a golf ball into man's final frontier while gripping a handrail on the International Space Station.

While orbiting the earth at 17,500 mph, the cosmonaut hit the ball, which was on a spring-loaded tee mounted on the side of the space station.

A Canadian golf club manufacturer paid the Russian space agency Roskosmos millions to stage the stunt.

NASA figures the golf ball will orbit for about three days. I don't believe there are plans for Tyurin to play it when it lands. However, after reading the story I couldn't help remembering another story about an errant golf shot.
