On Tuesday, Racine area voters picked Democrat State Representative John Lehman over Republican Racine County Executive Bill McReynolds to replace Cathy Stepp as their State Senator. Lehman is one of the most liberal members of the state legislature, and even began the campaign by attacking McReynolds for being opposed to higher taxes.
For the rest of time, I never, ever want to hear another resident of Racine County complain about the stadium sales tax to build Miller Park. Furthermore, Racine owes a big apology to former State Senator George Petak who was recalled because of the tiny stadium tax.
People in Racine like paying taxes. They vote for obscene tax hikes for their school system and now they voted for some who is so far to the left he makes Kim Plache look like Ronald Reagan.
In fact, after Tuesday's result, I think the legislature should pass a law making Racine County responsible for paying everyone else's share of the stadium tax, too.
Former Governor Tommy Thompson was wrong. Let's stick it to Racine instead.
