Waukesha County Supervisor Bill Kramer is questioning whether he should relinquish his county board seat when he becomes a member of the state assembly. Believe it or not, it is legal to serve in both positions.
Kramer needs to let go of his county seat and concentrate on serving in the state assembly. We saw during the campaign Kramer's county supervisor duties conflicted with the best interests of his campaign. And serving in both positions will inevitably lead to a conflict of interests.
I know from a past conversation with Kramer is that he is concerned about who would replace him but the County Board really is an entry level position in government. Here is a golden opportunity for Kramer and the Republican Party (yes, the party) to recruit a candidate to run to help build the party's bench strength for the future.
Yes, there is nothing illegal about serving in both positions, and Kramer would not be the only one in the legislature doing it. However, what is legal is not always right, and in this case the right thing would be one public office per person, thanks.
