Looking for efficiency

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports on County Supervisor Keith Harenda's push to change the way the county board operates in light of the reduction in size from 35 members to 25 members. I posted Harenda's letter to County Board Chairman Jim Dwyer back on September 26th. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Dwyer said the Executive Committee will recommend a restructuring plan later this year or early next year. So far, the group has decided to recommend maintaining seven major committees, with all supervisors serving on two committees.

Dwyer said such a system distributes the workload evenly in the areas of finance, personnel, parks and land use, health and human services, law enforcement and public works.

"It works out just to a tee," he said.

It sounds like the current executive committee is suffering from a lack of imagination. On the other hand, they are proving that the modest reduction in the board's size won't do any harm, something we should all keep in mind when we get another crack at reducing the board during redistricting.
