A group of unidentified protesters disrupted a news conference by Gov. Jim Doyle today, drowning out some of his comments on an E. coli outbreak and on reconstruction of the Zoo Interchange. They should've been arrested for disturbing the peace. I don't like Doyle either, but these kind of tactics are inexcusable.
Chants such as "Dump Doyle!" "Liar!" and "State for sale!" continued throughout Doyle's comments.
The Democratic governor's aides immediately blamed the disruption on the campaign of U.S. Rep. Mark Green, Doyle's Republican opponent, but the Green camp denied responsibility.
The protesters, less than a dozen in number, had homemade signs and at least one megaphone. They appeared at the Watertown Plank Road park-and-ride lot in Wauwatosa before the start of the news conference.
By the way, I fully believe the Green campaign had nothing to do with it, and it's silly of the governor's campaign to pretend that they did.
Update! 10:34pm It does occur to me that perhaps it wasn't Green loyalists at all. Given the reported chants, "Dump Doyle!" "Liar!" and "State for sale!", perhaps it was merely Doyle contributors who didn't get the state contracts they were promised.
