Green Statement on the Guilty Verdict in the State Bid-Rigging Trial
GREEN BAY – Today, a federal jury found a state employee guilty of steering a state contract to a campaign contributor of Governor Jim Doyle.
Following the verdict, Congressman Mark Green, the Republican candidate for governor, issued the following statement Monday:
“Last October, I called for a new state law that would prohibit contributions to a governor’s campaign while a company is bidding to do state work. Elect me governor, and I will take steps to reassure taxpayers that campaign contributions are not influencing state procurement decisions.”Green’s proposal would prohibit contributions to the governor’s campaign from any employee, director or owner of a company that has submitted a bid in response to a “request for proposal” (RFP). The contribution moratorium would be in effect from the time the RFP is released until 60 days after the contract is awarded.
