On this date in 1869, the Golden Spike was driven to commemorate the completion of the first transcontinental railroad. Soon after the Milwaukee Common Council and the Milwaukee Couty Board starting seeking federal funds for their own choo-choo train.
No train, unfortunately, but they get buses on wires and fixed rails. How much fun is that?
"Look mom, that bus has wires on it!"
"Yes dear, but it's not polite to point and stare."
"But mommy, it runs on rails!"
"Well, some buses just aren't as capable as other buses and they need a little special help."
"Is that why the bus is so empty mommy? Nobody wants to play on it? Poor bus with wires..."
Update! Mark Belling on WISN-AM 1130 is reporting someone found Mayor Tom Barrett of Milwaukee and he is going to veto the buses. We'll see if the veto will be sustained.
