"Somebody lead."

This e-mail was forwarded to me and I thought I would pass it along. It was written by a former Waukesha County Supervisor from Oconomowoc, Marian Ricker, and sent to all of the current Waukesha County Board members.
WHERE ARE YOU GUYS?
Maybe we need an alumni group to defend you in the Press. JoAnne Weidemann did good work for you last week. I wrote to a friendly blogger (not friendly to you, friendly to me) . I suggested that she stop calling the Co. Bd. names and request that Charlie Sykes do this also. He did name you the "Losers of the Week". but he didn't call you names.

I assume that you all know that you MUST cut your number. Why don't you assume your rightful control?

Pick your number. ACT. I know that you are all quality people, but you are also being presented to the public as a big JOKE.

Do you realize that you are the first, the example, the movement is to then do all the other counties in Wisconsin? Somebody, Anybody, take back the county. Your silence is defeating you. You are assumed to be leaders.

Somebody lead.

Marian Ricker
I think they need less an alumni group to defend them in the press than they need some county board alumni to start collecting signatures to reduce the membership of the county board.

There are a couple of points in this e-mail that I think has actually led the county board to where they are now. When she says, "Take back the county" the question is, from whom? "Why don't you assume your rightful control?" By what right? And again, from whom? How dare the peasants with pitchforks demand the right to say what kind of government they should have?

On the other side, when she says, "I assume that you all know that you MUST cut your number" I think she is writing more from hope than experience. We have no reason to believe the county board has any intention of cutting the board membership to any reasonable level given the rhetoric and inaction so far. But we should encourage the county board to listen to former supervisor Ricker and make the necessary cuts. After all, it is the responsible thing to do.

In the meantime, if Marian Ricker would like to start collecting signatures, I promise to personally drop off the petitions myself.
