(March 6, 2006) Waukesha Taxpayer League (WTL) President Christine Lufter released the following statement today announcing plans to proceed with a referendum to reduce the size of the Waukesha County Board:

“After spending months trying to work with County Executive Vrakas and members of the Waukesha County Board to reach an agreement on adequately reducing the oversized Board, the Waukesha Taxpayers League has determined that this current elected body has no intention of listening to the voices of County residents and would rather simply protect their turf. Therefore, we are now making plans to proceed with a referendum to reduce the size of the Board to 11 part-time members.”

Petitions will be available beginning March 13th.

The WTL will be holding a volunteer meeting for people interested in circulating petitions to get the issue on the ballot. The meeting will be held on March 16th at 6:30pm in the Community Room at Waukesha State Bank in Oconomowoc. Interested parties may contact Chris Lufter at 262.547.8715 for more information.
