A note on the petition drive

I want to pass along this message from the Waukesha Taxpayers League, whose tireless efforts in this campaign cannot be overstated:

Thank you to all who have circulated petitions so far. Currently, we are ahead of our goal, however, the time line continues to change on the whims of the Waukesha County Board. If you have not heard yet, the board narrowly voted against reducing the board to 25 and by a larger margin, 19. Once again, many supervisors showed their contempt of the voters by their actions and their words. Supervisor Kolb advised the board to vote to reduce the board to 25 so citizens wouldn't be given "the opportunity to stick it to you." Supervisor Kipp has publicly stated that she will move to reconsider at the next County Board meeting on April 11th. Supervisor Stroud, who was absent, stated that she would have voted to downsize "just to satisfy that element that just has to cut the County Board." The board showed their disdain for the citizens of this community with their mockery of those participating in this process. One board member even stated that "it is not the board that needs to be educated, it is the citizens.' We say, it is time for the board to recognize that they are accountable to the citizens of this community.

It is time to take this out of their hands and end the political games this board is playing with this community! While the WTL is very stunned that the board did not reduce itself yesterday, this is a golden opportunity for us to get this done and done quickly. We have just under two weeks before the board can reconsider.

Over the last couple of weeks, circulators have gotten signatures during their daily walks, standing at gas stations during busy times, walking the mall at Brookfield Square and the Food Court during lunch hour, fish frys, churches, work, etc. and by knocking on doors. Some of the totals have been astounding.

Please make the commitment to get the signatures over the next 12 days. We have found that for the most part, going door to door, we can get 25 signatures per hour. At a gas station or popular event, the signatures come in even faster. Both need to be done.

Please check the website for drop off locations for completed signatures or mail them to WTL Po Box 1991 Waukesha, WI 53187-1991. Please do not wait to return them until you are done circulating, but return the sheets as completed. We are not asking a few to give a lot of time over twelve days, but, rather asking each of you to give a minimum of four hours.

If you have any questions, please contact us.

Thank you.
