The Waukesha Taxpayer's League is announcing that so far they have received pledges back from two candidates running for mayor of Waukesha: Dean Field and Jim Young. So far, no pledge received from Ann Nischke, Jim Connors, Andrew Kallin, Larry Nelson and Eric Holmes. (Update! 7:42pm Ann Nischke has signed the pledge and mailed it in. See comments.)
(The odds of Larry Nelson signing the pledge to protect Waukesha's taxpayers are about the same as my switching to domestic vodka. And I'd rather drink MMSD discharge.)
The Pledge, which you can read in it's entirety, basically requires the candidate to promise three things:
- Vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes from the current levy beyond additional revenue generated by new construction. This includes any attempt to circumvent this limit via fees or borrowing.
- To not oppose attempts by the state legislature to freeze taxes beyond additional revenue generated by new construction.
- Support requiring a referendum for borrowing requests greater than $1,000,000.00.
As I've noted elsewhere, so far the most active campaigns I've seen and heard are the Field campaign and the Kallin campaign. Field has already done some direct mail, while Kallin is hitting doors where his Supervisor district and the City of Waukesha overlap (although it appears to be untargeted). If anyone has other information, I'd love to pass it along.
The primary is now one week away (February 21st). I'll be consulting my spies during the week to provide updates as I can. So far, the race has been strangely quiet.
