The unpopular Harriet Miers

Reaction to poor Harriet Miers has been mixed, with both Conservatives and Liberals undecided if they should "go to the mattresses" or let her nomination sail through.

I had to laugh at this from Random 10:
After reading through the unique mix of bewilderment and outrage I am reminded of a scene from the The Godfather.
Tom Hagen: Mr. Woltz, I'm a lawyer, I have not threatened you.
Jack Woltz: I know almost every big lawyer in New York, who the hell are you?
Tom Hagen: I have a special practice. I handle one client. Now you have my number. I'll wait for your call. By the way, I admire your pictures very much.
Special practice indeed. There's an Earthly reward for Bush loyalists and Bush has handed this one out prematurely. Couldn't he have given her, say, an appeals court position instead?

It's very likely Miers will turn out to be everything President Bush claims she is. She may be a strict constructionist. She may be the conservative swing vote. But wouldn't it have been better had it been the Left up in arms and the Conservatives declaring victory, instead of vice versa?
