See? How hard was it? Pick someone very qualified for the job with an impressive background and a known record and everyone loves it. President Bush today nominated White House economic adviser Ben Bernanke to succeed Alan Greenspan as chairman of the Federal Reserve. Bernanke has an impressive resume and well staked-out policy positions. The discussions about his role in the economy and his philosophy will continue long after he is confirmed.
By the way, there was a big loser today: Harriet Miers. How unqualified she appears in contrast to the nominee for Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Bernanke gives conservatives and liberals both a person they can point to and say this is what a qualified nominee looks like.
