An Irish/Polish/Norwegian horde from the Wigderson tribe descended on Miller Park saturday to see the Milwaukee Brewers come back in the late innings to defeat the Cincinatti Reds. It was an exciting game.
Let us note that Ned Yost is an idiot. With the bases loaded, one out, Chad Moeller stepped up to the plate. I'm screaming, practically choking on my TGI Fridays club sandwich yelling for a pinch hitter. Of course, the only person involved in the game was the leftfielder for the Reds Adam Dunn. It's not like he was going to relay my suggestion to the Brewers or anything so Yost was left to be stupid and the Brewers stranded all three runners and almost blew the game.
Not that this would've ruined the experience. Despite the priciness of TGI Fridays, watching the game from the Home Run Porch is a wonderful experience.
The service is excellent and even the limited game day menu offered enough variety to satisfy the whole of the Wigderson party. The one disappointment was a dessert called the "Apple Crisp" that had the look and texture of oatmeal, and did not achieve the standard set by the Chocolate Rush. The Jack Daniels ribs were certainly tender, though the barbeque sauce was to me too sweet and too heavy, somewhat reminiscent of a Mongolian BBQ. But if there was one universally agreed upon recommendation, the Jack Daniels Ribeye was excellent. Also, the Philly Cheesesteak certainly looked large enough to satisfy the biggest of appetites.
The view is nice from afar in left field. Carlos Lee even waved at us (no baseball though). You can watch the game without the interuption of beer swilling fans (like me) constantly interupting to venture to the bathroom and the concession stands for deposit and refueling. Sitting at a table is conducive to the family actually having a cross table conversation without trying to balance three courses of food in the lap. Unlike the 300 club, the seats are still open to the stadium and the view of the game so you still have the feeling of being at the ballpark instead of an expensive sports bar.
