"I really believe that if we had fewer people, and they had a quality experience, versus focusing on quantity, it's better for everyone. There's less traffic. There's more spots to park. There's not as long of lines at the restrooms, and to get a beer and a sandwich, and so on and so forth. So this emphasis that has been put on a million people -- we're going to de-emphasize that," Smiley said.Milwaukee's Summerfest event was expertly planned and run by Bo Black for years. This is the first year where Smiley has been involved from the beginning of the planning process. If he's already downplaying the attendance numbers we may be seeing the start of a long, slow decline of an event everyone in Milwaukee could be proud of.
No word yet when he'll start asking the city for a subsidy.
