Finding friends and family who are missing due to Hurricane Katrina

This is essentially a repost, with a couple of additional links. To all those who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina, or those who have loved ones missing in the affected area, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

The American Red Cross has established a toll free phone number for those trying to contact missing relatives. It is 1-866-Get-Info (1-866-438-4636). It has also established a web site at http://www.familylinks.icrc.org/katrina.

Red Cross Alert for Persons with Emergency Medical ConditionsThe Red Cross is only accepting phone calls to search for missing persons in these emergency circumstances: Insulin dependant diabetics, Oxygen dependant, On dialysis, Blind, Recent heart attack or stroke victims, Mobility challenged, Broken leg foot or ankle, or paralyzed.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has a Katrina Missing Persons Hotline at 1-888-544-5475. They also have links for checking for lost children at their website.

The federal government through FEMA, the Federal Emergencies Management Agency and the federal government website Firstgov.com have a number of resources for locating lost family members listed at http://www.firstgov.gov/Citizen/Topics/PublicSafety/Hurricane_Katrina_Recovery.shtml#vgn-finding-loved-ones-vgn.
