My favorite "Sound Off" of all time

This appeared in the "Sound Off" section of the Waukesha Freeman:
Language
I once had a cousin who lived in Texas. About 1969 I took him to a local McDonald’s (in Waukesha). We both ordered burgers and fries, but he stipulated he wanted nothing on his. Now this is before the Big Mac or Quarter Pounder burger era. He was shocked he got no pickles, onions, ketchup or mustard on his burger. I explained, “You ordered it plain.” He said in Texas, even a plain burger comes with onions, lettuce and tomato.
We all aren’t taught the same in this country. We need to start talking the same. That means one thing in one part of the country does not mean the same thing in another part of the country. ... Let’s all agree on a language and try to get along.
Pickles, onions, Texas and Wisconsin, McDonald's burger and fries... Can't we all just get along?
