Court-imposed gay marriage

An Iowa judge overruled the law in his state and declared unconstitutional the Iowa law that marriage can only be between a man and woman. The issue was thought previously settled in 1998 when Iowa passed the Defense of Marriage Act.

Somebody please remind me again how the Republicans are using gay marriage as a wedge issue.

Once again we have a judge rather than the legislature rewriting the laws of a state to suit his personal ideological agenda.

Of course, the ruling takes on national importance as the Iowa Caucus is also the first contest for delegates in the presidential candidate nominating process for both parties.

Iowa will soon be debating amending their constitution to ban gay marriage. It will be interesting to see which way the presidential candidates fall on this issue.
