He always wanted to see Guam

Received this friendly note from Matt Lira at the GOP:
Today, House Democrats are bringing legislation to the floor that will pay reparations to the people of Guam for the actions of Imperial Japan during World War II. That's right - American taxpayers will cut checks to the people of Guam for atrocities committed by the Japanese.

This could be the first time in recorded history that a government has seriously considered paying reparations for the actions of another government; actions which, it should be noted, thousands of Americans gave their lives to end.
As Fred at Real Debate points out, the only Wisconsin co-sponsor is Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R). Given his love of travel, perhaps he's never been to Guam and is just looking for an excuse to go.

Update! 5/9/07 Tim Rock has more details on the proposed "reparations" (if you can get past the condescending tone). But as an article in Japan Today points out, the issue is not nearly as clear cut as Rock would make it. Here's some more interesting background on the issue.

Update 2! Here's a Honolulu Star Bulletin editorial on the subject.
