Maybe they're too busy looking for terrorists

Despite adding more analysts than even what the governor suggested, despite throwing money at the problem like a member of Congress, JB Van Hollen is already planning on breaking his promise to erase the back log at the state crime labs. (Ht: McBride)
Compounding the problem are the well-documented shortage of qualified DNA analysts and a backlog at the crime lab of more than 1,700 cases.

The state Legislature recently passed emergency funding to hire 30 DNA analysts and one technician.

Van Hollen anticipates they will have the backlog cleared up during 2010, but he added: "I'd never be so foolish as to make a promise."
Except during a campaign, when his ambition exceeded his ability to be honest.
