Root causes
Unlike some on the right (and some on the left, as well) I always saw Georgia Thompson as a tragic figure in the Doyle era. Not because she was convicted wrongly. A jury of her peers found her guilty, even as the prevailing mood was to see her set free (lest her conviction tarnish the reputation of Governor Doyle). No, the question left lingering is what made her believe that by advancing the interests of a Doyle donor she would be advancing her own interests? Answering that question would probably explain a lot about state government, not just the Doyle Administration.
